VDSL: good and bad news

On the positive side:
The telco triple play got a boost from the standardization point of view by the ITU-recommendation of VDSL2. This standard allows for symmetric data rates of 100 Mbps. Distance limitations of VDSL-technology make this a perfect fit for FTTN-deployments.

On the negative side:
Swisscom postpones the introduction of IPTV ('Bluewin TV') because of shortcomings on the technology front.
This raises questions over other IPTV-deployments based on Microsoft and Alcatel platforms, most notably SBC, scheduled for this year's fourth quarter. Telecom Italia so far is on track to start during the summer.
